A clash between two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) unit prompted the authorities to declare the university closed on Tuesday for an indefinite period. Fazlur Rahaman, public relations officer (PRO) of CUET, said a clash ensued between two factions of BCL on the campus on Monday night over establishing dominance, injuring a student. Following the incident, an emergency meeting of the university administration was held on Tuesday morning in the presence of Prof Dr Jahangir Alam, vice-chancellor of the university. The decision was taken at a meeting where the university authorities said the male students would have to leave the campus by 12:00 pm on Tuesday and the female students by 5:00pm. Meanwhile, the courses under the master’s programme of the university will continue following regular schedule, he added. –UNB, Chittagong
