The International Women’s Day was observed on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus on Thursday with a call to work together for protecting the rights of women.
Marking the day, a colorful rally, led by JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam, was brought out from the Business Faculty premises and ended at Zahir Raihan auditorium after parading the main streets of the campus.
A discussion was held at the seminar room of Zahir Raihan auditorium.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Farzana Islam urged all to come forward to establish the equal opportunity for both men and women, ensuring fifty-fifty participation in all sectors.
Stressing the need for raising voice to stop violence against women, she said gender inequality is an ancient hostile relation of the world.
“To overcome this hostile relation, some changes will have to bring on male-dominated family structures, gender-discrimination laws, psychological thinking and language usage,” the JU Vice-Chancellor said.
Noted feminist Prof Nasim Akhter Hossain delivered her keynote speech at the function.
Director of JU Student Welfare and Counseling Centre Prof Rasheda Akhter and JU Treasurer Prof Sheikh Md Monzurul Huq, among others, spoke at the discussion.
