International Women’s Day was observed at Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus on Tuesday in a befitting manner with a call to work together for protecting the women’s rights.
Marking the day, a colorful rally was brought out from the Business faculty premises led by JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam and parading the main streets of the campus it was terminated at seminar room of Jahir Raihan auditorium following a discussion session on the campus.
JU VC Professor Farzana Islam urged to establish equality between men and women ensuring fifty-fifty participation in all sector.
She also urged to implement the motto of women’s day ‘Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step it up for Gender Equality’.
Urging to protect the women from violence against them, Professor Farzana Islam also said that it would be ensured that no men will be punished illegally by any women related case.
JU Pro-VC Professor Abul Hossain, Treasurer Professor Abul Khair, Director of Students Welfare and Counseling Center Professor Dr. Rasheda Akter, Chairman of Public Administration department Dr. Muhammad Sayadur Rahman, Assistant Professor of Public Administration department Jebunnessa addressed the function among others.
Later, a cultural function was held at Jahir Raihan auditorium on the campus.
