The International Women’s Day was observed in Bagerhat district town and its all the nine Upazilas on Friday in a befitting manner.
In this connection the District Administrations, Women’s Affairs Department, different government and non-government organisations including SANAC (Sachetan Nagarik Committee), Bagerhat chalked out 3 daylong elaborate programmes to observe the day.
On the occasion a human chain was held in front of Bagerhat Press Club under the auspices of Bagerhat District Administration, Woman Affair Department and various non government organisations including SANAC (Sachetan Nagarik Committee), Bagerhat with Hasna Hena, DD of the Woman Affair Department , Bagerhat in the chair. It was addressed among others by Ahad Udddin Haidar, President, Baqgerhat Press Club, Prof. Chowdhury Abdur Rab, President, SANAC, Bagerhat, Rizia Khatun of NGO Rupantar, Farida Rahman and Asaduzzaman.
Gouripur (Mymensingh) Correspondent adds: The International Women’s Day was observed in Gouripur Upazila of Mymensingh district on Friday demanding equal rights, safe mobility for women and women’s safety in all levels of the society. Government and non-government organisation chalked out various programmes including rallies, discussions and cultural programmes to mark the day with this year’s slogan ‘ Think equal, build smart, innovate for change’ with a call on the masses to help forge a better working world – a more gender inclusive world.
A rally was brought out at 10:00 am from the Upazila Parishad that ended at the same place. Members of different organizations including ACECC Nari Kallyan Sangstha, ADRA, Creative Nari Kallyan Sangstha attended a rally and women from different professionals took part at the rally along with colourful festoon, banner and play cards.
Later a discussion meeting on Right Dignity and Equel jointly organised by Upazila Administration and Department of Upazila Women Affairs office was held at Upazila Public Hall with ASM Riad Hasan Sourab, AC (Land) of Gouripur upazila in the chair. Speakers at a discussion here on Wednesday stressed the need for effective resistance against repression on women and establishing their rights equal to the male counterparts.
