A two-day international conference titled “Urdu in the Contemporary World” began at RC Mazumder Auditorium of Dhaka University (DU) campus on Monday.
Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the conference as the chief guest, said a DU press release. DU Urdu Department organised the inaugural session of the conference. Convener of Conference Organizing Committee Prof Dr Zafar Ahmed Bhuiyan presided over the inaugural function while Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Dr Sajahan Miah addressed it as special guest. The function was also addressed, among others, by Secretary of Conference Organizing Committee Prof Dr Md Israfil and Co-Convener of the committee Prof Md Mahmudul Islam.
Academicians and researchers from different universities of Bangladesh and India are participating in the conference, the release added. DU VC Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for making intellectual interaction among the people of various languages to upgrade our education and research. This conference would play an important role to enhance the quality of researchers, he added.
