Int’l Short Film Festival begins in city tomorrow

The 13th International Short and Independent Film Festival, under the auspices of Bangladesh Short Film Forum, will begin in the city tomorrow (Thursday). Finance Minister AMA Muhith is expected to inaugurate the eight-day festival at the National Museum Auditorium. The slogan of this year’s festival is: ‘Free cinema, free expression’. Briefing reporters at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Tuesday, organisers said some 200 short and independent films from 40 countries will be screened at the festival.
Films will be screened at six venues in the capital-National Museum, Central Public Library, Shilpakala Academy, Jagannath University, Russian Cultural Centre and Independent University Bangladesh.
Apart from film screening, the event will feature a talent-hunt programme, lectures, seminars, filmmaking workshops and special exhibitions.
Renowned Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal will attend the festival as a special guest.
Bangladesh Short Film Forum president Manjare Hasin Murad and festival committee chairman Nasiruddin Yousuf were present at the press conference.
