Daffodil International University (DIU), UN Resident Coordinator and United Nations Information Center (UNIC), Dhaka jointly observed The International Human Rights Day on Monday through elaborate program titled “70 years of Universal Declaration of Human Rights”. The program included documentary presentation, seminar, easy competition, poetry recitation and staging dance drama on the basis of “We sing for equality”.
With the theme “Stand up for someone’s right today”, a seminar was organized at DIU Auditorium. Prof Dr SM Mahabub Ul Haque Majumder, Acting Vice Chancellor, DIU was present as chief guest at the program. Presided over by Dr Farhana Helal Mehtab, Head, Department of Law, the function was addressed by Prof Dr M Lutfar Rahman, Former Vice Chancellor, Prof AMM Hamidur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, Zahid Hossain, Adviser, UNRC and Syed Mizanur Rahaman, Director of Student Affairs.
Fahmida Sultana, Information Officer, UNIC Dhaka read-out the UN Secretary General’s message on the Day. Conducted by Fahmi Hassan, Administrative Officer, DSA, country’s renowned Poet Nurul Huda, Poet Shihab Sarker, Poet Habibullah Siraji, recited poetry in the program. A human rights dance drama “We sing for equality” was performed by DIU theatre group – ‘All Star Daffodils’.
Addressing as the chief guest Prof Dr SM Mahabub Ul Haque Majumder said, the whole world is now passing a critical time of violating human rights and in Bangladesh human rights is also being violated in some different ways.
He urged all to be united and come forward to protect human rights and raise their strong voice against the violation of human rights. In this regards, state will have to play the vital role and civil society of the country will have to come forward in support of it, he added.
