The development of Science and Technology is prerequisite for achieving the goal of being middle income country by 2021 and of being the developed one by 2041, said former adviser to the caretaker government and Vice Chancellor of Asia Pacific University, Dr. Jamilur Reza Chowdhury.
He was addressing as the chief guest at a two-day-long international conference, titled “Innovations in Science, Engineering and Technology’ at International Islamic University’s (IIUC) permanent campus auditorium, Kumira, Chittagong yesterday.
With IIUC, VC Prof Dr AKM Azharul Islam in chair, the inaugural sessions were addressed by Dean of University Sains, Malaysia Engineering and Built Environment faculty Dr. Kamaruzzaman Shimon, Bangladesh University of Engineering &Technology (BUET) Prof Dr M. Kaikobad, President of IEEE Bangladesh Section prof Dr Sheikh anwarul Fattah, acting Pro VC of IIUC and convener of conference prof. Dr. Delwar Hossain, Dean of Science and Engineering Department Dr. Monirul Islam and Member Secretary Tanvir Ahsan.
Dr Jamiur Reza Chowdhury also said, without the development of science and technology no other development is possible and the tendency among the students to enroll in commerce and humanities groups apprehend us. He emphasized on the industrial revolution to implement the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) and also called for boosting the knowledge based economy.
He also said, once just after the liberation war, the students from Malaysia came to our educational institutes to earn knowledge but unfortunately now thousands of students from home now going to Malaysia for better education.
Meanwhile, BUET Prof DrKaikubad as the special gust said, the first international conference was held in 1998 and through this conferences, the aggregation of science and technology based knowledge was upheld.
IIUC vice-chancellor Prof Dr AKM Azharul Islam said, for the pivotal role of science and technology, there is a need for scholarly work on its social dimensions and such international conference would provide an excellent platform for the academicians, researchers and students to deliver the latest innovative research.
About 72 Universities and researchers from 18 countries contributed to the Conference while the researchers tabled their new findings. The concluding ceremony would be held today at city’s Hotel Lords’ In.
It is mentionable that the 1st International Conference of IIUC was held on ‘Micro enterprise Development financing Using Islamic Financing Instrument 1 village Project” in 1998 in Chittagong.
