Int’l conference on Bangabandhu concluded at JU

A two day long international conference on ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and His Legacy’ concluded at Jahangirnagar University (JU) recently.
University Grants Commission chairman Prof Kazi Shahidullah was present as chief guest while former Vice-Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University Prof. Dr. Pabitra Sarkar chaired in the conference.
Addressing the conference, Prof Shahidullah said, ” More research should be conducted on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Specially on his life leading as a middle class people. Now, we find a rare number of politicians like him. Because, the politicians turned into businessmen and the businessmen turned into politicians. Everybody is running after money. Even you can’t hold a single meeting without Kham (sitting allowance) which we didn’t think for a while”. Former governer of Bangldesh Bank and Bangabandhu Chair Professor of Dhaka University Dr. Atiur Rahman presented a paper on ‘Bangabandhu’s aesthetic leadership and his campaign for people’s emancipation’.
He said in his paper,” Rabindranath Tagore in his essay on’Swadeshi Samaj (the indigenous society) was looking for a leader who would become the point of reference for the people in times of both struggle and prosperity. Fortunately, there came Sheikh Mujib who provided a dream of freedom to his people”.
Mr. Obaidul Moktadir Chowdhury MP, JU Pro-VC Prof Nurul Alam and JU Treasurer Prof Rasheda Akhtar attended the conference as guest of honor.
The conference featured a total of 19 sessions where 102 papers were presented in the conference where A total of 80 papers were presented on-site and the left were presented virtually.
Meanwhile, Managing Director and CEO of Agrani Bank honored with an special award for his step to set up Bangabandhu corner at the Agrani Bank offices very first.
International Institute of People’s History (IIPH), JU History department, JU Archeology department, Bangabandhu Institute of Comparative Literature and Culture organised the program in association with Paschimbanga Itihas Samsad of India, Centre for Bangladesh Studies of Rabindra Bharati University and Research and Development Collective of Bangladesh.
Besides, Pro-VC of Bangladesh Open University Prof. Nasim Banu Prof. Dr. Mesbah Kamal of DU History department and president of International Institute of People’s History, Prof ATM Atiqur Rahman of JU History department,
JU vice-chancellor Professor Farzana Islam is inaugurated the conference virtually on Sunday where Planning Minister M A Mannan was present as chief guest.
