A 2-day international conference titled ‘Recent Advances in Chemistry’ was concluded at Jagannath University (JnU) Central Auditorium on Saturday with a focus on progresses in chemistry in recent years.
Jagannath University Chemistry Department hosted the conference with the motto ‘Chemistry for Health and Welfare ‘comprising participants from eight countries.
Earlier on Friday, Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman inaugurated the programme as chief guest while JnU Vice-Chancellor Prof Mizanur Rahman, Treasurer Kamaluddin Ahmed and renowned experts in chemistry addressed the programme in chair of Chemistry Department Chairman and ICRAC President Prof Sayed Alam. The conference held at different venues of the university.
The conference includes a wide range of discussion about all areas of chemistry, including analytical, Environmental and Nanoscience, Nanotechnology, electrochemistry, drug design and discovery, crystallography, reaction and mechanisms, supra molecular chemistry, nano-materials, green chemistry, polymer chemistry and theoretical chemistry.
However, it includes invited talk from eminent persons, oral and poster presentation. Students of the university’s chemistry department also exhibited different published research papers and undergoing projects done by the department teachers and students.
Prof Charlotta Turner on ‘Extraction and analysis of high-value compounds in plants using green solvent technology’, Prof Shakhawat H Firoz on ‘Manganese oxide based nano-architecturedmaterials for their application in energy and environment’, Prof Md. Ashaduzzamanon ‘Fabrication of structural composites from indigenous Nanostructured layered kaolinite’ presented their respective articles.
A total 470 academics from eight countries and different research institutions are participating in the conference.
The eight countries are Bangladesh, United Kingdom, Nepal, Sweden, India, Saudi Arab, Australia and Japan.
