ACC submits report in HC: Interpol seeks necessary info about PK Halder

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday submitted a report in the High Court saying that the Interpol, International Police Organization, wanted some information waited specially about an arrest warrant against Proshanta Kumar Halder, popularly known as PK Halder, to bring back him to the country.
In the report, the ACC also said that the organization had made a request to the Interpol through Home Ministry to bring back PK Halder to the country. In reply the Interpol sought some information, specially an arrest warrant against him.
But still now, is no arrest warrant had been issued from any court of the country against PK Halder who allegedly swindled billions from a number of banks and financial institutions and fled the country some months back.
The report further stated that the ACC on September 15 this year filed applications in the courts of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge and Senior Special Judge to issue arrest warrant against PK Halder which are under process.
After getting an arrest warrant from the court the ACC will make further request to the Interpol to bring back PK Halder to the country, also read the report.
ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan placed the report in the High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohel.
Earlier on September 17 this year, the ACC lawyer said, “The Anti-Corruption Commission is trying very hard to arrest him through Interpol and the initial formalities are over. The letter may be issued to the Interpol soon.”
Later on Septemebr 19 the High Court wanted to know from the respondents what steps had been taken to bring back Proshanta Kumar Halder to the country and to arrest him.
Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), secretary of the home ministry and deputy commissioner of Dhaka had been asked to comply with the queries within 10 days.
In reply the ACC submitted the report stating the latest situation of the initiatives for arresting PK Halder.
After holding hearing on the report the High Court further sought a report over the initiatives for issuing an arrest warrant from the trail court against PK Halder, FIR of the case filed against him and court order to freeze his movable and immovable properties.
Besides, the court fixed December 9 for passing further order over the issue, said the ACC lawyer.
During yesterday’s proceedings, the court observed, “The corrupt and money launderers, no matter how big they are, must be brought under the law. No scope to let them free.”
Recently International Leasing and Financial Services Limited (ILFSL), a non-bank financial institution, informed the company bench of the High Court on October 21 this year that PK Halder would come back to the country on October 25 this year, but he didn’t.
Following a petition, the company bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar on the same day ordered the law enforcing agencies to arrest PK Halder immediate after stepping out of the flight.
The law enforcers were also directed to send him to the competent court of law showing execution of the arrest warrant.
Inspector general of police (IGP), immigration authorities and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had been asked to comply with the order by ensuring his arrest.
The High Court bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the International Leasing and Financial Services Limited following its consultation with Halder in this connection.
But on October 24, his lawyer informed the attorney general through an email that PK Halder was not able to come back to the country as he had been affected with Covid-19.
