Interns at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital here beat up the son of a patient on Sunday following an altercation over a trivial matter.
Later, the doctors went on an indefinite strike to press home their four-point demand, including taking action against the patient’s relatives for their ‘misbehaviour’.
Sources at the hospital said patient, Alauddin Sarkar, 60, of Konagati area of Sirajganj was admitted to the hospital on Saturday midnight.
An altercation took place between his son Rauf Sarkar and intern Najer Uddin around 11:30am on Sunday over switching a fan in room no-475 of the hospital.
At one stage, the intern beat Rauf. Later, other interns joined him, took the youth to a room and beat him.
They also locked the emergency unit of the hospital and went on an indefinite strike claiming that patients’ relatives did misbehaviour with them.
However, the emergency unit was opened around 3pm, said director of the hospital Brig Gen AKM Masud Ahsan.
