The International Women’s Day was observed in Bagerhat district town and its all the nine Upazilas in a befitting manner. on Wednesday .
In this connection the district administrations, women’s affairs department, different government and non-government departments including SANAC (Sachetan Nagarik Committee), Bagerhat chalked out elaborate programmes to observed the day. On the occasion a human chain was held in front of Bagerhat Press Club under the auspices of district administration and various non government organizations on May 5.
A lively discussion meeting was held on women in the DC’s conference room on Wednesday with Mohammad Mamun-ul-Hasan, ADC (Gen), Bagerhat in the chair. Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagerhat spoke on the occasion as the Chief Guest. It was also addressed among pothers by Adv. Parvin Khanam, Woman Vice-chairman of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Parihad, Adv. Sharifa Hemayet, Member of Bagerhat Zila Parishad, Farida Rahman, SANAC Member, Bagerhat and Adv. Seeta Rani Debnath.
BSS from Rangpur reports: The International Women’s Day-2017 was observed here on Wednesday with a fresh vow for ensuring equal rights, empowerment and participation of women in building a middle income nation by 2021 and developed country by 2041.
The District Administration, Department of Women’s Affairs in association with the other government departments, NGOs, sociocultural and professional organisations and bodies chalked out daylong programmes in observance the day.
The programmes included bringing out of a huge colourful rally participated by hundreds of women, girls, adolescents, students, teachers, NGO activists, officials and employees with placards, banners, posters and festoons in the city streets.
The other programmes included organising seminars, special fair, lighting candle, discussions and colourful cultural functions.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-Education and ICT) Ruhul Amin Mian attended the main discussion at Town Hall auditorium here as the chief guest with District Women Affairs Officer Kawsar Pervin in the chair.

The speakers put importance on building a changed social mindset to
flourish women leadership and mobilisations of all social forces for eradicating gender disparity and ensuring equal rights and empowerment of the women.
They thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for taking epoch-making steps to increase social dignity and honour of the women ensuring their empowerment, equal rights and enhanced emancipations in every field of national development and policy-making activities.
The chief guest stressed on ensuring equal rights of women and men-women joint efforts to attain sustainable national development and make independence meaningful for every citizen as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He also called for ending child marriage, dowry and violence against women to ensure their proper education and equal emancipation in development,economy, politics, governance, every profession and sector for building a prosperous nation.

They were addressing the discussion jointly organised by District Administration and Department of Women’s Affairs at Deputy Commissioner’s Conference room in marking the International Women’s Day 2017.
Deputy Commissioner Shubash Chandra Biswas addressed the discussion as chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue, Education and ICT) Mahbub Hasan Shahin in the chair.
Police Super Amena Begum (BPM) and Civil Surgeon Sultana Rezia addressed the occasion as special guests.
