The International Migrants’ Day was celebrated in Rangpur under the theme “I will bring dignity and morality to the freedom-immigrants in the golden age of the father of the nation” on Saturday. In the morning, the day started by blowing balloon festoons in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. Later, a discussion meeting was organized by the District Administration and District Employment and Manpower Office, Rangpur in the Conference Room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. Rangpur DC Md. Asib Ahsan was the chief guest.
Amena Parveen, Assistant Director, Rangpur District Employment and Manpower Office read out the main article of the day. Additional Deputy Commissioner Sarbik Golam Rabbani presided over the function and Superintendent of Police Md Ferdous Ali Chowdhury was the special guest.
Among others, Nakul Chandra Mohant, Joint Director, Bangladesh Bank, Rangpur, Ujjal Kumar Roy, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rangpur Metropolitan Police, Nazmul Haque, Principal, Technical Training Center, were present. Officials from private offices, NGO representatives were present on the occasion.
Tarash (Sirajganj) Correspondent adds: The International Migrants Day was celebrated in Tarash Upazila in Sirajganj on Saturday. A discussion meeting was held on the occasion of this day at 11 am organized by the Upazila Administration. The function was presided over by UNO Mezbaul Karim . At the beginning of his speech, he remembered with reverence the heroic children who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of the country. He reverently remembered Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. At the same time, the organizers of the liberation war including four national leaders and all the heroic freedom fighters were remembered with respect in this discussion meeting. Then the speakers in their respective speeches highlighted the contribution of immigrants. Immigrants in Bangladesh are playing a leading role in infrastructure development, economic development or increasing remittances. Acknowledging their gratitude to them, he urged those concerned to strive for their rights and to keep them free from harassment and torture. Also present on the occasion were Upazila Engineer Abu Sayed, Social Service Officer AKM Moniruzzaman, Rural Development Officer Rezaul Karim, Additional Agriculture Officer Abdullah Al Mamun, Rural Biddut DGM Ashraf Uddin Khan, Upazila Press Club Co-President Mohsin Ali, Journalist Rafiqul Islam and M. Chhanwar Hossain Saju.
