A two-day long International History Conference opened on November 14 at Chittagong University. Presided over by Dr. Sharifullah Bhuiyan, President of Bangladesh Itihas Samity the theme of the Conference is ‘Regional History and Heritage of Chittagong’.
The Conference was inaugurated by Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University of Grants Commission of Bangladesh. Amongst others Dr Iftikhar Uddin Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor, Chittagong University, Dr. Ranjan Chakroborty, Vice-Chancellor, Vidyasagar University, Mednipur, India and Dr. M. Sekandar Chowdhury, Dean of Arts, Chittagong University spoke on different aspects of study of regional history.
The Chief Guest Professor Mannan, highlighted the unique history and heritage of Chittagong and its adjoining areas and its role in the War of Liberation of Bangladesh and the Country’s economy.
The highlight of this year’s conference is `Mastarda Surja Sen Commemoration Lecture’ given by Dr. Ranjan Chakroborty. About one hundred and fifty participants from Bangladesh and India are participating in the Conference.
