With the slogan — “frame-e frame-e aagamir shwapno,” the International Children’s Film Festival will continue the annual extravaganza of exhibiting exceptional films made for children. Organised by Children’s Film Society Bangladesh, the 10th edition of the festival is set to commence from January 24 simultaneously running at several venues across the capital and two other cities, Rajshahi and Rangpur. The festival will also travel to the port city of Chittagong on February 3 and 4.
Mohammad Abir Ferdous, the director of the festival, revealed the event details in a press conference held in the capital on January 10. Filmmaker Morshedul Islam and Munira Morshed Munni, among others, were present on the occasion.
This time, more than 200 films from 54 countries will be screened at 11 venues throughout the country. One of the festival’s salient features is the competition section where films made by Bangladeshi children will compete. In this section, 21 films out of 60 submissions have been selected while the best film award will be presented to five entries. Interestingly, the jury is also made of children who are to select the best films in the category.
Child filmmakers, whose films are selected in the competition section, are invited to attend the festival. The organisers also informed that they will invite underprivileged and physically challenged children to attend the event while making sure that entry to the event is free for any child.
In the Young Bangladeshi Talent section, films made by young filmmakers, aged between 19 to 25, will be showcased while in the Social Film section, films focussing on climate change and other social issues will be showcased.
In the International Competition section, a total of 20 films from around the world will be screened along with local entries to compete for the best prize. The jury of International Competition section comprises of Sekhar Mukherjee, a faculty of National Institute of Design, India, filmmaker Amitabh Reza Chowdhury and Sabrina Sultana, a faculty member of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka.
A total of 15 famous film personalities from around the world will attend the festival while it will also include interactive sessions in which children will get the opportunity to talk to various people who are experts in their field.
