Staff Reporter :
The academic atmosphere in a number of public universities is being hampered due to internal feuds of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling party Awami League, over their dominance on the campuses.
The internal in-fighting and anger over the issue of committee formation in the public universities are creating troubles on the campuses, forcing the authorities to halt classes and examinations until their demands are met.
Such activities of the ruling party student wing are creating a reign of fear among the other students who are being victims of it as their academic lives are being hampered.
Against the dominance and supremacy of the Chhatra League, the university administrations are seen helpless to take any initiatives to smoothly carry on the academic activities.
Meanwhile, on Monday, a faction of Chhatra League in Chattogram University enforced a blockade on the campus in protest of ‘depriving of posts in the full committee of the university unit.’
Halting classes and exams of the university, they demanded the inclusion of the deprived leaders in an extended committee.
In order to realise their demands, the aggrieved faction locked the main gate, the transport office of the university and the shuttle train so that the students, teachers and other staff could not enter or leave the campus.

Registrar Mohammad Nurul Absar said the incident took place at around 5pm and the vehicles could not leave the campus to fetch the teachers.
Rakibul Hasan Dinar, vice-president of Chhatra League, said, “Those who have been deprived of their posts are laying siege for an indefinite period. We have put forward a three-point demand. We will not withdraw from the movement until our demands are met.”
Earlier on September 16, a clash between two factions of Chhatra League’s Chattogram University unit erupted over dormitory issues and the incident left four people on either side injured.
Meanwhile, on Monday, the former Chhatra League leaders vandalised the office of the Vice-Chancellor of Kushtia Islami University Abdus Salam over the issue of recruitment.
The leaders also intimidated the authorities to release the recruitment files within 12-hour.
The incident created much anger in the campus and the academic atmosphere has been hampered by such dominance of the Chhatra League over different issues.
