Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of ruling Awami League (AL) is facing crisis in Chittagong.
The intra-party feud and dissatisfaction spreads among the leaders and activists of BCL in Chittagong. Killing, clashes and rivalry among the groups and followers of different leaders of Awami League are going on in the BCL in the port city recently.
Sources said armed miscreants killed Sudipta Biswas, the Assistant Secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong City Committee on October 6. Victim Sudipta Biswas was the Assistant Secretary of BCL Chittagong city committee as well as he was also involved with City College committee. He appeared Masters Examination in the current year from City College.
He was also the follower of the President of Chittagong City Awami League A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury. He was the son of Babul Biswas of Banshkhali and living at Nalapara under Sadarghat thana in the city.
Besides, on October 7, armed miscreants killed Mohammad Imon (27), son of one Abdul Hakim of Suparipara at Agrabad under Doublemooring thana in the port. He was an activist of BCL.
Sources and family members of the victim said, in front of the home of the Imon, some friends of victim Imon surrounded him when he returned from Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) after attending a patient at around 6 am.
They chopped Imon with lethal weapons and after confirming his death, the miscreants fled away. However, the relatives of the victim said that the known persons killed Imon. But, they do not know the reason of the murder. Earlier, miscreants killed BCL leader Yasir Arafat in February. But, President and General Secretary of BCL of Chittagong City committee Imran Ahmed Imu and Nurul Azim Rony said they had wanted fair student politics in Chittagong. “We never allow any students without ideology and honesty who will lead the BCL.”
Sources said, rival factions of BCL locked in clash and gun fight at Chittagong College more than 20 times in last month’s over the establishing supremacy at Chittagong College and Hazi Muhammad Mohshin College. On August 19, rival groups of BCL locked in clashes at Chittagong College again. Earlier, on July 31, the rival factions of BCL locked in clashes and gun fight. A total of three activists of BCL were bullet injured in the gun fight while around 10 others also injured in the clash.
