Intern docs start strike at SBMCH protesting assault by police

Intern doctors of Barisal Sher -e- Bangla Medical College Hospital has started strike from Saturday afternoon protesting alleged assaulting a female intern by a police official.
Imran Hossain, BCL Unit President and intern doctor at SBMCH, said Sub Inspector Manoj Kumar of Patuakhali range police admitted at medicine unit-1 of SBMCH on Friday noon.
After that SI Manoj entering in the duty room of the doctors verbally abused and misbehaved with the female intern doctor alone on duty at the ward.
Hearing this other intern doctors rushed to the spot rescued the female doctor and ousted that police official.
On Saturday noon intern doctors holding an emergency meeting handed over a memorandum to the director of the hospital demanding unconditional apology of the concerned police official.
Dr. S M Sirajul Islam, director SBMCH, acknowledging the facts said intern doctors protesting police-assault and demanding his apology started strike from 2:00 PM Saturday. The allegation of the intern doctors sent to the police authourity for taking action, director SBMCH told.
Accused SI Manoj left the hospital on Friday night and so his comment was not available.
Shah Md. Awlad Hossain, officer in charge of Barisal Kotwali police station, said he visiting SBMCH talked with intern doctors and hospital officials and trying to negotiate the issue.
However the strike was going on till this report at 5:00 PM Saturday, related sources said.
