Speakers at a function here underscored the need for achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) through cordial efforts and active participation of all section people of the society.
The main theme of the SDGs is that no development works will be done in the country keeping anybody behind, they said.
They made the comments while addressing a day long workshop entitled “Localization in SDG achieving: Doings in Field Level” organised by district administration at the conference room of District Collectorate Building on Thursday.
Rangpur divisional commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed addressed the event as the chief guest and joint secretary of Ministry of Public Administration AKM Dinarul Islam was present as the special guest.
With DC Gautam Chandra Pal in the chair, the workshop was also addressed among others by additional police super Abdullah Al Faruk, additional deputy commissioner (general) Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Sundarganj UNO SM Golam Kibria and journalist Sarker M Shahiduzzaman while assistant commissioner Sharmin Sattar was the moderator.
While screening a power point presentation DC Gautam Chandra Pal described 17 goals of sustainable development one after another declared by United Nations Development Programme elaborately.
Rangpur divisional commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed said Bangladesh is moving forward and showing healthy sign of progress in economic and social fields.
A total of 100 participants from all section of the society including district level officials, upazila chairmen, UNOs, public representatives, political leaders, teachers, social workers, cultural personalities, and journalists of print and electronic media took part in the workshop.

Baul Shah Abdul Karim Shilpi and Voktogoshti (BSAKSV), Gaibandha, arranged the cultural programme to pay homage to Baul Shah Abdul Karim. An inaugural session was also held with M. Ragib Hasan Chowdhury Habul, general secretary of GNCS and advisor of BSAKSV here, in the chair while Goutamashis Guha Sarker was the moderator.
Deputy Commissioner Gautam Chandra Paul inaugurated the function as the chief guest and police super Mashrukur Rahman Khaled and Mayor Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon were present as the special guests.
DC Gautam Chandra Paul in his speech said Baul Shah Abdul Karim wrote about 1600 songs for the people and love, justice, injustice, superstition and non-communalism had been expressed through his songs.
The DC also thanked the organizer for arranging the function for the people.
Later, a cultural function was held where the artistes of Bishmoy Music School conducted by BTV and Betar Music singer Mohammad Ali Khan performed popular songs of Baul Shah Abdul Karim to entertain the people.
A large number of people including govt. officials, political leaders, public representatives, social workers, town elite, and journalists attended the programme spontaneously.
