Speakers at a participatory discussion unequivocally called for integrated efforts of all concerned to combat the coronavirus (COVID-19) spread.
There is no alternative to working integrated approach to stem further spread of the virus as it is a global pandemic, they told a disaster response coordination group meeting.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) organised the meeting at its Nagar Bhaban conference hall on Wednesday discussing and devising ways and means on how to fight the outbreak of coronavirus collectively.Divisional and district level heads of most of the public offices joined the meeting.
Chaired by RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, Staff Officer of Rajshahi Cantonment Major Ataur Rahman, Deputy Director of Local Government Division Parvej Raihan, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Sazid Hossain, Civil Surgeon Dr Enamul Haque and District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Aminul Haque.
Mayor Liton told the meeting that the city corporation has adopted various need-based measures, including creating awareness among the public in general through distributing leaflets and using loudspeakers. Masks and sanitizers are being manufactured for health, conservancy workers and the city dwellers, he said, adding, the procurement process of PPE from China is going on for the protection of the doctors and nurses. Mentioning that booths for using hand sanitizers by the roaming people were set up on 26 spots across the city, he said steps have also been adopted to spray disinfectant medicine in various areas.
RCC Panel Mayor Shariful Islam, Chief Executive Officer Dr Sharif Uddin, Secretary Abu Hayat Rahmatullah and Chief Health Officer Dr AFM Anjuman Ara Begum and Chief Conservancy Officer Sheikh Mamun were also present at the meeting.
