Speakers at a discussion on Thursday put emphasis integrated efforts to combat Trauma disease in Bangladesh.
 “Trauma related disease is increasing in the country due to road accident and natural disaster. A number of people also died of Trauma. So united effort is a must to reduce it,” they said.
The speakers said in the opening session of a training programme titled “Trauma Evaluation and Management” held in a city hotel on Thursday.
The Institute of Health Sciences of SAJIDA Foundation in collaboration with Canada-based NGO Team Broken Earth jointly organised the programme with the assistance of Renata Limited.
High Commissioner of Canada in Bangladesh Benoît-Pierre Laramée was present as the chief guest while Professor Dr Amjad Hossain, President of Bangladesh Orthopaedic Society, Dr Andrew Furey, MD, FRCS of Team Broken Earth Canada, Specialist Doctors from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Dr Ainsley Decker, MD, Dr Darrell Boone, MD, FRCS, and Dr Ian Wishart, MD, FRCS from Calgary University, and Dr Jahangir Alam, MBBS, MS Associate Professor, NITOR and Organizing Secretary of Bangladesh Orthopaedic Society were present as special guests.
Executive Director of SAJIDA Foundation Zahida Fizza Kabir gave the welcome speech at the programme.
High Commissioner of Canada in Bangladesh Benoît-Pierre Laramée underscored the importance of trauma management and relevant capacity building among the healthcare professionals in Bangladesh. He mentioned that Canada’s international development efforts in Bangladesh help stimulating sustainable economic growth and inclusive development. Highlighting healthcare services for trauma victims as a basic human right, he further stressed on the need to excel services for trauma/injury cases with provision of improved quality of life of Bangladeshi people.
Professor Dr Amjad Hossain mentioned that the level of death, trauma and injuries associated with road and other form of accidents and disasters is very high in Bangladesh. He highlighted that in addition to this training program, well reputed local and international NGOs like SAJIDA Foundation and Team Broken Earth should come forward to address huge problems associated with injuries and trauma fostering capacity building and preventive initiatives across the country.
