The Cyber Crime Tribunal of Dhaka on Thursday sent a special correspondent of the Dainik Inqilab to the jail in a case filed for publishing a ‘false report’ against an Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of police.
Judge KM Shamsul Alam of the tribunal
passed the order when Sakhawat Hossain surrendered to the tribunal with bail plea. The case was filed with Wari Police Station by AIG Proloy Kumar Joardar under the Information and Communication Technology Act on August 18, 2014.
According to the case statement, the report accused AIG for exercising domination in the name of the Prime Minister. On March 20, 2015, the tribunal issued arrest warrants for the Dainik Inqilab editor AMM Bahauddin and special correspondent Sakhawat Hossain after taking cognisance of the charge sheet of the case. Investigation Officer (IO) of the case and Inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) of police Md Azizur Rahman submitted the charge sheet to the court on December 31.
Advocate Syed Ahmed Gazi argued for the accused during the hearing, while special public prosecutor of the tribunal Nazrul Islam stood on behalf of the prosecution.
