Business Desk :
The apex trade body of the apparel makers has decided to suspend the membership of inoperative factories.
There are more than 1,100 factories, which have not been in operation for a long time, according to Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
In a meeting on August 7, it decided to revoke the membership of the closed factories.
“We’ve decided to cancel the membership of the inoperative factories,” BGMEA Vice President Md Shahidullah Azim said.
If any factory fails to renew the membership by October 30, it will lose the membership automatically , he said.
At present, BGMEA has 4,390 members with 2,400 factories. Some 60 percent of the factories are woven garment manufacturers and 40 percent are knitwear and sweater manufactures.
