Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity (BJKS) has demanded unconditional release of its detained Secretary General Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury.
The Samity made the demand at a press conference held in the Jatiya Press Club in the city.
It sought the Prime Minister’s intervention on the matter and demanded a trial of him who falsely filed case against Mozammel.
On the other hand, police shown arrest Mozammel in another case on Monday.
Human Rights Activist Advocate Sultana Kamal condemned the arrest of Mozammel at the press conference and demanded his immediate release.
She said, “The plaintiff of the case Dulal confessed that he was not known to Mozammel, and Mozammel never asked extortion to him. In spite of this, the government has not feel shy and did not release him yet.”
“In addition, the police have complicated him today (Monday) in another case instead of releasing him,” she said.
Sultana Kamal said, an explosive case in which Mozammel has complicated was filed against unknown people. Such cases are using to harass innocent persons like Mozammel. This practice should be ended now.
She said, recently Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed six point directions to eliminate anarchies in transport sector. Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury has said to surveillance on the matter on behalf of the Jatri Kalyan Samity. Certain quarter may become angry on this and complicated him in such case.
She said, “Every citizen has the right to get bail until convicted in any offense. As per the rules of law, the government should release Mozammel Haque Chowdhury immediately from jail.”
Sultana Kamal, also a former Adviser of the former caretaker government, said, travel safely and it falls under their fundamental rights. It would be an insult if we do not take such a matter seriously.
“In the midst of all the chaotic things happening every day with commuters, Mozammel has been selflessly working for the general people’s rights. It is not expected that a man of his caliber is accused in a false case and is in jail now. I strongly condemn this.”
“The helpless and innocents are suffering immensely as the law enforcers doing these unlawful things along with corrupt people by using the law in their favour,” she said.
At the same time, Sultana Kamal urged the government to provide security for Dulal, who filed the case against Mozammel as Dulal told journalists that he did not know Mozammel. Dulal also claimed that he just signed a piece of paper that was brought to him by two labour leaders.
Jatri Kalyan Samity Central member Shamsuddin Chowdhury read out a written statement saying, “A person who works for the betterment of people should not be harassed like this. And if the law enforcers do such acts, then where else can we go?”
Mozammel’s wife Rizu akhter Chowdhury in a teary voice said, “My husband is not a political leader. He works only for general people. I strongly urge the Prime Minister to intervene in this matter.”
Ganosamhati Andolon Convenor Junaid Saki said, “A syndicate is massively benefiting from the transport sector. If these people are slightly affected, then the scenario will change. An example of which is Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury.”
Meanwhile, police have shown arrewst Mozammel in an explosive case filed against unknown people in February, at Kafrul Police Station for which he was taken to court on Monday. The hearing of the case has been set for Tuesday.
Earlier, Mozammel was arrested on Thursday in a extortion case.
