A Bangladeshi cattle trader, who was reportedly tortured by the members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF), was rescued from Laxmidari bordering area in Sadar upazila here early Friday.
The victim was identified as Sheikh Jakir Hossain, 30, son of Sheikh Nasir Hossain of Labsha village in the upazila. Local people found his body smashed
and right hand and leg broken when they rescued him from the bordering area. Later, they admitted him to sadar hospital.
Family sources said the BSF members of Ghozadanga camp picked up Jakir while retuning home with cattle through the bordering area at the dead night and then tortured him mercilessly.
The BSF troops left him near Laxmidari area in the wee hours of Friday.
Dr Maruf Hossain, residential medical officer of the hospital, described Jakir’s condition as critical.
