Initiatives taken to eliminate waterlogging in Lalabazar

The Sylhet Roads and Highway Department has taken initiative to construct a drain in response to the request of the local people’s representative to alleviate the waterlogging in Lalabazar of South Surma on the Sylhet-Dhaka Highway. As part of this, Noore Alam Siddiqui, Sub-Divisional Engineer, Sylhet Roads Department, visited the construction site of drainage in front of Lalabazar School and College with local people’s representatives and businessmen on Monday afternoon.
Chairman of Lalabazar Union Parishad No. 8 Pir Faizul Haque Iqbal, newly elected Chairman Twaizidul Haque Tuhin, Joint General Secretary of Sylhet Metropolitan Awami League Bidhan Kumar Saha, District Juba League President Shamim Ahmed, Assistant Headmaster of Lalabazar School and College Maulana Abdul Primary, Lalabazar were present. School Headmaster Enam Uddin, Deputy Assistant Engineer (Bishwanath) Abdullah Al Mamun, Roads Department Surveyor Amjad Hossain, Contractor Fakhar Uddin, Sylhet District Juba League Leader Sita Mia, South Surma Juba League Joint Convener Ashiq Ali, Lalabazar Union Juba League President Nizam Ahmed, South Surma Upazila Youth Solidarity leader Faizur Rahman Gedul, prominent politicians Abdul Haq, Alam Reza, Suhel Ahmed and leaders of market traders and workers’ organizations. After the inspection, Noor Alam Siddiqui sought the cooperation of all in the proposed drain construction work to solve the drainage problem of Lalabazar.
Speaking on the occasion, Pir Faizul Haque Iqbal, chairman of Lalabazar Union Parishad and president of Lalabazar Bazar Management Committee and Lalabazar Business Association, said that the road was blocked due to lack of drainage system at Lalabazar on the Sylhet-Dhaka highway. Following the request of the Executive Engineer of Roads and Highways Department Sylhet to construct the drain, the construction of the drain will start soon with the efforts of the Planning Secretary and the local Member of Parliament.
