Staff Reporter :In a move to enhance gas pressure in the national grid, the government has taken initiative to install wellhead compressors at location-C of Titas and Narsingdi gas fields.A Tk 868 crore project to this effect is likely to get ECNEC nod this week as the highest economic policy-making body will sit today (Tuesday), according to Planning Commission sources. With the current trend of continuous decrease in gas pressure in wells of the aforementioned fields, the wells would not be able to supply gas to the national grid at 1,000PSIG pressure. It will be critical to coordinating pressures in national grid if the compressors are not installed within 3 to 7 years, officials said.As estimated, the location-C of Titas would have lost the desired pressure within the next three to four years while Narsingdi field might face the same situation within the next five to seven years. The government will install three wellhead compressors having 90 million cubic feet daily capacity at the Titas field and another three with 15 million cubic feet daily capacity at Narsingdi field to give a solution to the problem. With the completion of the project, the government is expecting to add 140 million cubic feet of gas daily from Titas and another 40 million cubic feet from Narsingdi field to the national grid. Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Ltd (BGFCL) under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources will implement the project which is scheduled to be completed by 2020.
