Influenza damages poultry industry in Kishoreganj

The poultry industry has badly collapsed due to the sudden spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza. In such a scenario, the Chamber of Commerce, a large organization of traders, urges the banks as well as the government to extend a helping hand to protect the potential poultry industry.
Influenza outbreak has been rampant in Kishoreganj since the last week of December.
At least five lakh chickens have died due to influenza infection in more than 100 farms in Kishoreganj . More than two lakh chickens have died in Bajitpur and Kuliarchar upazilas. Due to the panic, the farmers have burnt the chickens and buried them without informing the incident. The horror is that more than 72,000 layer chickens have died in a poultry farm. The poultry owner has to count the loss of more than taka 4 cr.
Hundreds of male and female workers of this farm have become unemployed. While searching for this dreaded influenza infection, it was learned that a few days ago, the Layer Chicken Farm of Sapna Agro Farm Factory in Kamalpur of Bajitpur Upazila and the farm of Kabir Hossain of Kuliarchar Dumrakanda were busy due to production pressure. These two ideal firms were 100% air security complete. Suddenly, 11 layers of Sapna Agro Farm and 8 layers of Kabir Hossain’s Farm were infected with the highly pathogenic avian influenza. The farm was shut down due to such a terrible plague. Hundreds of men and women became unemployed. According to the farmers, as soon as the initial symptoms appear, every effort has been made to develop preventive measures by using antibiotics on the advice of doctors.
The chicken plague could not be stopped. An autopsy of these chickens revealed a terrible influenza infection. In this incident, 72,626 20 and 23 week old chickens of Sapna Agro Farm died within 9 to 10 days and 35,000 layer chickens of Kabir Hossain Farm died during laying of eggs. Swapna Agro Farm has lost Tk 4 crore 6 lakh 8 thousand 126 and Kabir Hossain Farm has lost Tk 2 crore due to chicken pox. The owners of the farm lost their way in this unfortunate incident.
Ibrahim Khan, Director of Swapna Agro Farm in Kamalpur of Bajitpur upazila of the district and Kabir Hossain, Owner of Dumrakanda farm in Kuliarchar, said that with the outbreak of influenza, immunization measures with the advice of doctors became completely ineffective.This huge amount of layer chickens died. The farm is about to close due to such a terrible plague. Hundreds of working men and women who have chosen this industry as their livelihood have become unemployed. When contact to District Livestock Officer (DLO) in Kishoreganj Nazrul Islam said that especially in winter season, guest birds carry this disease. At this time the guest birds that come to our country also take shelter in the bushes and trees around these poultry farms. The disease is transmitted from the droppings of these birds.In the meantime, all the Upazila Livestock Officers have been asked to be vigilant after receiving the news of the spread of this disease in our neighboring country India. But most of the panic-stricken farmers went unnoticed overnight after the outbreak of the disease they were burnt and secretly buried, DLO in Kishoreganj added.
