A group of local influential people is allegedly trying to grab control of a college located in Siddhirganj Housing Area of Narayanganj in the outskirts of the city.
They are also trying to change its name as Habibullah Eastern Ideal College, replacing its original name Eastern Ideal College.
Sources said, some educated persons established the college in Siddhirganj Housing area of Narayanganj in 2008 and got approval from the Dhaka Education Board (Code-2513, EIIN no-134577) accordingly.
The college also gained reputation for its excellent teaching and good results in Siddirganj upazila.
According to the sources, a local businessman named Habibullah offered financial help to the founders of the college and its managing committee for expansion of academic building on condition that the college be named as Habibullah Eastern Ideal College. But he allegedly did not fulfill his commitment.
Meanwhile, Habibullah has submitted necessary papers to the board for changing the name with the help of the principal of the college without knowledge of the managing committee.
The committee alleged that the principal prepared some papers with fake signatures of the college committee members. They on the other hand
took the matter to the board saying the college principal and Habibullah have produced false documents with fake signature of the managing committee members for changing the name.
Consequently, on objections the Dhaka Board stopped all processing of the papers for changing the college name.
Habibullah told The New Nation the founders of the college had requested him to come to the help of the college as they were failing to run it. He denied all allegations of any wrong doing.
A R Farrukh Ahmad Koshru, a representative of Deputy Commissioner of Narayangonj on the college committee, said, the college committee had initially agreed to his offer but Habibullah gave a small piece of disputed land to which the committee did not agree.
“He just cheated with the founders of the college,” Koshru said. He said, “Now Habibullah has occupied the college and ousted all the founding members from the college committee.
Aminul Hoque, principal of the college, could not be reached despite repeated calls
Dhaka Education Board Chairman Professor Muhammad Ziaul Haque told The New Nation yesterday that the name of the college would not be changed with false papers.
“If the authorities of Eastern Ideal College apply for changing its name they must submit necessary papers with the original signature of the committee members,” he said.
Meanwhile, the guardians and the students fear turmoil in the college that may disrupt academic activities.
