Economic Reporter :
The inflation edged up due to price hike of food and nonfood items in November this fiscal year.
“The inflation stood at 6.85 per cent up 58 basis points last month from the previous month,” said Planning Minister MA Mannan on Tuesday while briefing reporters after the monthly consumer price index was placed before the ECNEC meeting held in the NEC conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
The general point-to-point inflation rate was 5.47 percentage point in October.
The Planning Minister said the general point-to-point inflation rate increased by 0.58 percent last month from the previous month mainly because of the onion price hike. “The main actor (behind the inflation uptrend) is onion. We don’t want to hide anything and our stance is very much clear in this regard,” he added.
Mannan said although the inflation trend is showing a “zig-zag” trend, but, it is likely to ease in the coming days with the availability of winter vegetables.
The BBS data showed that the food inflation increased to 6.41 percent in November from 5.49 percent in the previous month, while the non-food inflation rate also increased slightly to 5.47 percent last month from 5.45 percent in October.
In the rural areas, the general inflation rate increased to 6.01 percent in the last month from 5.36 percent in October.
