Staff Reporter :
The leaders of the migration sector have demanded the status of industry for the sector so that it contributes more to the economy of our country.
“The remittance sent by the workers from abroad is sharing 15.9 percents of our GDP. The workers are going abroad at their own cost. Even the recruiting agencies enjoy no loan facilities. The government should give the migration sector the status of industry to bring more efficiency and transparency,” said Benjir Ahmed, the President of Bangladesh International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA).
He said it while presiding at a view exchange meeting with BAIRA and Journalists Forum on Migration (JFM) leaders in the BAIRA Bhaban at Eskaton in the capital yesterday.
BAIRA Secretary General Md. Ruhul Amin Swapan,
Joint-Secretary General Shameem Ahmed Chowdhury Noman and other leaders were present.
JFM President Monir Hossain was present with his 21-member team. Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) former president Jamal Uddin and DRU Former General Secretary Razu Ahmed, among others, were present.
Benjir Ahmed expressed anxiety at the migration policy of newly elected United States (US) President Donald Trump. He said that his policy created an unstable situation in the globe. We are really worried.
He congratulated the newly formed JFM and hoped that the new journalists body will be helpful to boost the sector.
BAIRA Secretary General Md. Ruhul Amin Swapan identified two factors for increased costs of migration. Those are selection of wrong persons as recruitment agents and less demands from abroad. BAIRA President and Secretary General and other leaders seek media’s cooperation to make the sector sustainable and dynamic.
