The industries in the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) area will remain close on polls day, said EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed.
The decision was taken after a meeting with the BGMEA and the BKMEA leaders, the EC secretary disclosed.
Helal Uddin Ahmed presided at the meeting held on Thursday.
He said, we requested the business leader to shut the industries in order to facilitate the workers of different factories, including the garment industries, to exercise their franchise. Thousand workers are voters of GCC polls. If the industries remain open, the workers may not be able to cast their votes.
EC secretary said that the law enforcers of Gazipur had been requested to oversee the decision.
Helal Uddin said, the BGMEA and the BKMEA leaders were cordial and agreed to the proposal. They also agreed to keep the factories open next holiday.
‘EC is trying to hold a free and fair election which will be acceptable to all, with assurance that the GCC polls won’t be of Khulna type election.
