An industrial police constable was killed and another was injured as some unidentified miscreants made a sudden attack on them and hacked them indiscriminately at Baraipara in Ashulia on Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as Mukul, a constable of Sripur police camp of Savar industrial police. Officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station Mohsinul Kadir said Mukul and Nur-E-Alam, another constable, had been performing their duties at Baraipara check post, adjacent to Nandan Park, on the Nabinagar-Chandra Highway since 7am. When three men, riding a motorcycle, reached the check post, the policemen stopped them. Suddenly, the trio swooped on the two policemen and hacked them with sharp weapons, leaving the two constables critically injured around 8am, the OC added. The miscreants fled away firing blank shots. Later, the duo was whisked off to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared Mukul dead. On the other hand, Nur-E-Alam was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his conditions were deteriorating. Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has already started for Savar from the capital to visit the spot. — Savar, Nov 4 (UNB)
