Indonesia books 7-year low budget deficit in 2018 300.004

Indonesia Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said on Wednesday the nation has booked 1.76 percent state budget deficit in 2018, apparently the lowest budget deficit rate since 2012.
Speaking in a press conference, the minister said actual deficit recorded throughout last year was even lower than 2.19 percent target set in 2018 state budget.
“The actual 2018 deficit stood at 1.76 percent, amounted 259.9 trillion rupiah (about 17.9 billion U.S. dollars), lower than the budget target of 2.19 percent amounted 325.9 trillion rupiah (about 22.5 billion U.S. dollars),” she said.
Citing the data compiled by her ministry, the minister pointed out that budget deficit in 2018 was apparently the lowest one if compared to the figures in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 that stood at 1.86; 2.33; 2.59; 2.49; 2.59 and 2.51 percent.
The key minister said the 2018 budget deficit came up from total revenues received by the state amounted to 1,942.3 trillion rupiah (about 134.3 billion U.S. dollars) compared to state total expenditure that reached 2.202.2 trillion rupiah (about 152.3 billion U.S. dollars) throughout the year.
In October last year Indonesian parliament approved government’s 2019 budget proposal amounted to 2,461.1 trillion rupiah (about 161.65 billion U.S. dollars) with targeted deficit at 1.84 percent.
The deficit target was the lowest one in years, expected of capable to provide room for the government in dealing with global uncertainties predicted to ensue in 2019.
