Rival cricket fans threw missiles at one another on a Leicester road last night after Pakistan beat India in the ICC Champions Trophy final.
Belgrave Road was blocked off as supporters came out onto the streets following the game.
Videos show rival groups of fans on either side of the road goading one another and throwing missiles while police stand in between.
The behaviour of fans was condemned by social media users who were stunned by what was happening.
One Twitter user wrote: “If you’re on Melton Road right now and involved in this stupidity, just go home, the police have better things to be worrying about.”
Another wrote: “Its kicked off Pakistani one side Indians on the other helicopters out police have locked off melton road its bloody daft,” and a third said: “It’s sad how there isn’t even celebrations on Melton Road instead there’s just chaos & fights between the 2 countries.
It’s the second time a road in the area was blocked off in a few weeks, with Indian fans shutting Belgrave Road on June 3 to celebrate a victory in the same trophy.
Police urged motorists to avoid the area last night, before announcing that the road had re-opened at around 11pm.
A spokesman said: “Belgrave Road has been reopened following an incident of public order.
“A large group of people gathered in the area earlier this evening following the final of a cricket match between India and Pakistan.
“Officers closed Belgrave Road city bound to the junction of Loughborough Road and county bound to Belgrave roundabout to assist the dispersal of the crowd.
“We would like to thank the public for their patience while officers dealt with the disruption.”
