Indigenous family fighting with disabled family members in Kulaura

Everyone is disabled in a poor indigenous family in Baramchal tea garden in the remote area of Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar. Suffering from the cruel scourge of extreme neglect and poverty, they are struggling to make a living.
No one is still looking for the family who are trying desperately to survive in the war of life. The disabled family is being forced to live a dehumanized life without eating.
When this correspondent visited the area and found only assets a cattle and this four people all live together in a house. The night this reporter went, there was no rice in their house, so they cooked only Kachu Shak. They said, they fast for most of the day due to lack of food.
It has been learned that Mohanlal Kurmi and Jasanti Kurmi are from Mahato indigenous family from Baramchal Tea Garden, about 45 km away from Moulvibazar Town, are disabled. The head of the family Mohan Lal himself is speech and physically handicapped. Each of the two children born in their family is disabled. Eldest son Arjun Kurmi (15) and daughter Malati Kurmi (13) are visually impaired.
Jasanti is only income source in the family. They have to live in a tin-roofed and mud wall-made room. Jasanti somehow supported the family by working as a day-labourer and tending betel trees of their adjacent areas. Father Mohanlal also tried to help them working in a little bit but he could not continue because of his illness.
Jasanti, the mother of the only little visually impaired member of the family, said the children’s fathers themselves were physically handicapped and had to struggle to get normal work. My two children are all disabled.
According to them, the family lives without eating with much difficulty. Government allowance is given to only one child.
When this correspondent visited this house at first this did not want to talk with this correspondent. They were saying angrily how many people come. They says give huge. Heard and left but nothing give anything.
Mohanlal Kurmi’s younger brother Chunulal Kurmi said, I am also a very helpless person but even then I help them when I cook something in my house. But sadly to these days they do not even come to see a glance or help a little bit. I think this family in the middle of Bangladesh is the most helpless.
Therefore, the disabled family along with the neighbors also requested for the help and cooperation of the government along with the people of the society. Families with disabilities cannot use mobile phones or have their own mobile phones.
Mohanlal Kurmi said, only get approximately Tk750 per month government allowance from our family with which it is impossible to run our family.
Shakhawat Hossain, Kulaura Upazila Social Welfare Officer told this correspondent, according to the policy, more than one person in the same family will not get allowance.
Mahfuz shakil, Journalist Kaler Kantho told this correspond dent, I went to their house myself. I was very surprised to see cattle and humans living together in this digital age. This family doesn’t even know how to beg properly.
That environment of their home will make anyone sick. On the other hand, if the family is not given quick support, then all the people in the family will die due to food crisis, he added.
