Staff Reporter :Al last, it has been possible to catch the Indian elephant roaming in Bangladesh for more than a month. Witnesses said, the elephant was tranquilized at around 2:00 pm as part of the process to rescue it. After a six day attempt, the elephant was injected sedatives at Koyra village of Sharishabari upazila in Jamalpur district. Once it was injected sedatives, the elephant fell into a ditch and was sinking in the water. Then several hundred people from Kamrabad village rushed to the spot and pulled the elephant out of the water. The rescue team cordoned the elephant at one Rahim Mandal’s house where it was sleeping. The rescue team members said the elephant was expected to regain its consciousness by the evening. A thee-member Indian team visited earlier to rescue the elephant but, the team along with Bangladesh forest officials failed to catch it. The Indian team then left the country. The Indian wild elephant entered Bangladesh territory through the Brahmaputra river more than a month ago and was roaming around in the northern districts including Bogra, Sirajganj and Jamalpur.
