An Indian national was arrested at Dakshin Surma in Sylhet on Saturday on charges of entering and staying in Bangladesh illegally.
The arrested is Sitaram Lal Chandra, 50, of Matiadhal at Marwari police station under Bilaspur district in the Indian state of Chhatrishgar, the police said.
Dakshin Surma police officer-in-charge Kamrul Hasan Talukder confirmed New Age of the matter.
He said that on secret information, they arrested Sitaram at Bharthakhola under Dakshin Surma police station in Sylhet city Saturday night.
The arrested admitted in police interrogation that he entered Bangladesh crossing the River Piyain along the border at Jafllong in Sylhet around a month back, the police officer said.
He said that the arrested could not show any legal document for entering the country.
He said that Sitaram was produced before the chief metropolitan magistrate court Sunday noon and the court sent him to jail.
