Indian minister wants finalisation of power trade with Bangladesh

Staff Reporter :Power Minister of the Indian State of Tripura Manik Dey has demanded to finalise the power trade project between India and Bangladesh. If the power trading is finalized, Tripura will respond to positively, the Minister said in a meeting in Tripura on January 23, according to a report published recently on Indian media.He said that India had agreed two years ago to supply power to Bangladesh from Tripura’s quota in the Palatana Power Project after Sheikh Hasina’s consent to ONGC’s thermal power company (OTPC)’s proposal for using Bangladesh’s Ashuganj port.The Indian government agreed to offer Bangladesh 10 per cent equity and 250 MW power as per agreement after both units of the 726 MW gas-based Palatana project began generating surplus electricity.
