Customs officials at the Shahjalal International Airport here yesterday detained an Indian citizen and seized 2.76 KG gold from his possession.
“Bijay Kumar, 41, arrived here from Dubai by Emirates Airlines flight. He was wearing two thick bangles on his hands that drew our attention. We checked him and found some gold inside his pocket. Once we checked his bangles, we found out those were of solid gold, covered in aluminum,” Farid Al Mamun, assistant commissioner of airport customs, told BSS.
Customs officials said the estimated market price of the seized gold is Taka 1.38 crore.
A case was filed in this regard with the airport police station and the arrestee was handed over to police.
