Indian HC visits construction site of Maitri Bridge-1

Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das visited the construction of India-Bangladesh Maitri Bridge-1 and land-port at Ramgarh Upazila of Khagrachhari district on Sunday morning.
 By expressing satisfaction in the construction of the bridge and land port, the Indian high commissioner has expressed the hope of completing the work within the stipulated time.
At that time Riva Ganguly Das said, “The bridge, once completed, will provide direct road connectivity between south Tripura and Chattogram through Sabroom (India) – Ramgarh (Bangladesh) link, and will further promote trade, tourism and people-to-people ties between Tripura and Bangladesh and benefit the entire region.
During the visit, Khagrachhari district commissioner Md. Shahidul Islam, Hill District Council Chairman Kongjari Chowdhury, 43 Border Guard Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Tariqul Hakim, Additional Superintendent of Police MM Salauddin, Ramgarh Upazila Council Chairman Bisshwa Prodip Kumar and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Umme Israt were present among others.
It is noted that, on 6th June 2015, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi established the foundation stone of the Maitri Bridge-1 on the Feni river through video conferencing. The construction cost of 412 meter length and 14.80 meter width bridge has been estimated at 82.57 billion Indian Rupees. The construction work of the bridge is scheduled to be completed in April 2020.
