Prof ABM Mosharraf Husain, Bagerhat :
A number of countries like Bangladesh, India, Mayanmar and Thailand are situated on the banks of the Bay of Bengal but the water territory of Bangladesh are full of more fish resources of different spices in comparison with other countries and that is why fishermen of the neighbouring countries like India and Thailand very often enter into the water territory of Bangladesh by powerful fishing trawlers with ultra modern trawling devices and catch fish from there illegally. But due to the strong vigilance of Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh coastguards the illegal entrance of Thai fishermen into Bangladesh water territory was stopped to a great extent.
But it is very difficult to check the Indian fishermen to do so in spite the strong vigilance of Bangladesh Navy and coastguards in the Bay of Bengal and the coastal regions. If they (Indian fishermen) get any chance they enter into the water territory of Bangladesh by their powerful fishing trawlers particularly during the period from English months October to March every year, because at that time the Bay of Bengal remains calm and quiet.
On October 02 in the year 2019 some 15 Indian fishermen were arrested by Bangladesh Navy/ coastguards with a fishing trawler from the Fair buoy area on the charge of illegal intrusion in the water territory of Bangladesh and catching fish from there. They were handed over to Mongla PS and a case was lodged with the PS against them (Indian fishermen). Later the arrested fishermen were sent to Bagerhat jail.
On October 04 (2019) 23 Indian fishermen were arrested along with 2 fishing trawlers from the same area and on the same charge.

On January 18, 2020 as many as 26 Indian fishermen were arrested along with 2 fishing trawlers from the Fair buoy area in the Bay of Bengal within the water territory of Bangladesh.
On February 08 in the year 2020 some 12 Indian fishermen were arrested by the Bangladesh coastguards from the same place and on the same change.
In all as many as 164 Indian fishermen were arrested along with 13 fishing trawlers from almost the same place (Fair buoy area) of the Bay of Bengal within the water territory of Bangladesh at some 8 different times during the period from October 02, 2019 to February 08, 2020 on the charge of illegal; intrusion in the water territory of Bangladesh and catching fish from there. In this connection some 8 separate cases were registered with Mongla PS in Bagerhat district and those (164) Indian fishermen and they were sent to Bagerhat jail.
