Indian Army Chief`s allegation means complicity of government of Bangladesh

REMARKS by Indian Army Chief, Gen. Bipin Rawat on Thursday that a ‘planned influx’ of people from Bangladesh into India’s north-east is underway as part of a proxy war by Pakistan with support from China, so to keep the area disturbed. Moreover, he also said migration from Bangladesh are happening because of two reasons – first, Bangladesh is ‘running out of space’ and second, because of ‘planned immigration’ backed by China and Pakistan to keep the region at chaos.
The General’s complaint that people from Bangladesh are entering in large numbers to the north-east part of India to make settlement with the motive to destabilize the region is totally untrue. Such a plan for fomenting destabilisation in India is highly political and possible only with the help of Bangladesh government.
At present India is dealing with the so-called Bengalee settler issue and even by Indian claim those people had settled in Assam before 1947 in undivided India. The enumeration of the so-called Bengalee settlers is also exempting those as a matter of policy. So possibly another humanitarian crisis in the line of Myanmar is underway in Assam.
The Indian General’s remarks amount to political subversion by the government of Bangladesh. No Indian Army Chief had made such remarks in sensitive political issues in the past. It may be some persons in India think Bangladesh is too eager for friendship with India and the government of Bangladesh will tolerate anything from India.
We must say our government should take the issue with the Indian government about baseless allegation against Bangladesh. We do not want to hear any Indian army officer making political allegations against Bangladesh. If Indian government has to make any such political allegation let it do it.
