The Airport Authority of India (AAI) in March 2017 awarded multiple contracts to Beijing based Nuctech Company Limited for providing 351 scanning equipment for 71 Airports in India.
The Contracts covered 17 air cargo scanning systems in 10 airports along with 52 units of luggage scanners. A separate contract procured 127 units baggage scanners and 155 luggage scanners for 61 airports.
Against severe competition the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), besides the Chinese equipment, extensively evaluated scanning equipment from the EU and USA before the AAI awarded the contract to the Chinese company.
Nuctech is jointly owned by Tsinghua University in Beijing and enjoys market leadership in the scanning industry. Over 1000 large container scanners have been sold in 140 countries.
In Bangladesh container Scanners have been operating in Chittagong Port since 2008 supplied by Nuctech. Further machines are shortly to be commissioned in Chittagong Port, ICD Komplapur, Benapole and Mongla.
