Assistant High Commissioner (AHC) of India Sandip Mitra on Tuesday said India has been maintaining excellent relations and friendship and playing positive role in expanding bilateral trade and commerce with Bangladesh.
“The Indian government wants to further ease the visa system for the Bangladeshis,” he said adding that efforts have been put in resolving some prevailing problems effectively at the earliest considering national interests of both the countries.
He informed that the number of multiple visas for the Bangladeshi businesspersons and common citizens would be increased in future.
Sandip called upon the authorities of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) and local businesspersons for exploring the prevailing prospects in both countries to take Bangladesh ahead through flourishing industries, trade and commerce.
The Indian envoy, stationed at Rajshahi, made these remarks while addressing a discussion meeting organised by RCCI at its board room in the city with newly elected RCCI President Md. Abul Kashem in the chair.
Welcoming the Indian envoy, the RCCI President remembered tremendous contribution of the Indian Government during the War of Liberation of Bangladesh and expressed deep shock at the demise of former Indian President A P J Abdul Kalam.
Senior Vice-president of RCCI Mostafa Ahamed, its Vice-president Mozammel Haque Dambel, Directors Habibur Rahman Raja, Partho Bose, Enamul Haque Sohel, Ashraful Alam Al-Amin and Zaved Hassan took part in the discussion.
The RCCI executives narrated various prevailing issues and problems related to import-export, trade and commerce between the two neighbouring nations, immigration check post and visa related issues. They forwarded suggestions on behalf of the importers-exporters and businesspersons of the region and sought an early intervention of the Indian AHC for resolving the prevailing issues as soon as possible.
The Indian envoy assured the RCCI authorities, traders, exporters and importers of Rangpur of easing the process of issuing visa for them and resolving other issues and problems to enhance trade and commerce between the two countries.
Among others, Directors of RCCI Ramakrishna Somani, Azizul Islam Mintu, Ajay Prashad Babon, Sattyajeet Kumar Ghosh, Amjad Hossain Chowdhury and its former Directors Rabi Somani and Shahjahan Babu were present.
