Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said India will always stand by Bangladesh. Speaking at the end of his two-day Dhaka visit on Sunday, he lauded Bangladesh for making progress despite obstacles. Modi started his speech in Bangla at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Sunday at a programme co-hosted by Dhaka University and the Indian High Commission. He vowed to maintain close relations with Bangladesh. Modi said India was with Bangladesh and would continue to walk the path together. “…We are near as well as together. “We are with you, we will move ahead taking you along” he said. “The trust must remain. Efforts must continue,” the prime minister said on India-Bangladesh ties. He finished his speech in Hindi saying ‘Joy Bangla’, ‘Jay Hind’. Modi greeted everyone after his speech in a traditional Indian gesture – joining his hands together close to the chest and bowing his head in respect. Minutes after wrapping up his visit, he thanked Bangladesh in a Twitter post. He wrote the visit will remain “etched in my memory” and that the outcome of it will “lead to stronger partnership”. “Most importantly, we successfully overcame long pending issues of the past & this will enable us to create a better future for our ties,” Modi tweeted. –bdnews24.com
