The Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswamy has expressed interest in collaborating in the development, modernization and expansion of the Chattogram seaport.
He expressed his interest while paying a courtesy call on Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad, chairman of the Chattogram Port Authority on Monday.
The port chairman told New Nation that with the help of power point presentation in the board room of Bandar Bhaban, we present the current capacity of Chattogram port, Patenga container terminal , under implementation Bay terminal and the work plan of the port in the coming days.
The High Commissioner expressed interest in assisting in the development, modernization and expansion projects of the port. ‘India’s cooperation in the development of connectivity will continue for the benefit of the two neighboring countries and their people,’ he added.
The High Commissioner expressed satisfaction over the successful transportation of containers of transshipment cargo to the eastern Indian states by road via Kolkata-Chattogram port.
Later in the afternoon, the India envoy visited New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) Jetties No. 2 and 3 of the Port. Port member (Harbor and Marine) Commodore Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman, Director (Transport) Enamul Karim, Director (Security) Lt. Colonel Mostafa Arif-ur-Rahman Khan, Terminal Manager Kudrat-e-Khuda, Port Secretary Omar Farooq, Capt. Tanvir, CEO of Saif Powertech’s top terminal operator in charge of NCT, were also present.
