‘India to increase stipends for B’deshi students’

India will raise its education related facilities including stipends for Bangladeshi students, Indian Deputy High Commissioner in Dhaka Swandip Chakrabarti said in Gopalganj on Thursday. “Indian government is helping Bangladesh for development of its education especially for women. We’ll extend the support in the days to come too,” Chakrabarti told a function to inaugurate the newly-built women’s hostel.
The hostel of Kazi Montu College was built at a cost of Taka 84 lakh with financial support from the Indian government. The two-storey bahban, located at Bhangarhat under Kotalipara upazila of the district, will accommodate a total of 35 women students.
Chairman of Kotalipara upazila Bimol Krishna Biswas presided over the function while principal of the college Nittananda Biswas, principal of Sheikh Lutfar Rahman College Gouranga Lal Chowdhury and elderly teacher freedom fighter Mojibul Haque spoke.
Swandip said India and Bangladesh are maintaining cordial relations. India wants Bangladesh’s development and it will be a win-win situation, he said.
Later, the envoy inaugurated a boys’ hostel of Vennabari United High School under sadar upazila of the district.
