India take upper hand

India took the upper hand after making 174 for the loss of three wickets in their first innings against Bangladesh on the first day of the second Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the former capital of India on Friday. It may be mentioned that pink ball has been introduced in the Kolkata Test, a Day/ Night Test also. Both countries have been taking part in a Day/Night Test and also have been playing with the
pink ball for the first time in their history of cricket.
Earlier, Bangladesh were bundled out for a meager 106 in the first innings on the same day. India led by 68 runs remaining with seven wickets. All Bangladesh batsmen failed to resist the outstanding bowling attack of India.
Shadman Islam, Liton Das and Nayeem Hasan were three batsmen of Bangladesh who could reach double-digit figures scoring 29, 24 and 19 runs respectively.
Shadman made 29 from 52 balls featuring five fours, while Liton hit 24 from 27 balls including five fours.
Ishant Sharma captured five wickets for 22 runs, while Umesh Yadav claimed three wickets instead of 29 runs and Mohammad Shami bagged two wickets for 36 runs.
Later, India had a shaky start as openers Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma were dismissed for 14 and 21 runs respectively. When Rohit was removed, India’s score was 43 for the loss of two wickets.
Then Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli salvaged their team from debacle adding together 94 runs for the third wicket partnership before Pujara was caught at the second slip by Shadman Islam off Ebadat Hossain when India’s score was 137 for the loss of three wickets.
Pujara notched up a fine 55. His 105-ball innings was studded with eight fours. Then Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane put on together 37 runs in the unbroken fourth wicket stand.
Kohli remained unbeaten with 59, while Rahane was on 23 before the bails were drawn for the first night.
Ebadat Hossain bagged two wickets at the cost of 61 runs, while Al-Amin Hossain took one wicket for 49 runs.
